What Members Thought
My second read, and I did enjoy it, particularly the last couple of pages. She perfectly explains the experience of many women, who kind of put their own lives on hold or to the side to take care of their families, and then sort of wake up out of a dream one day and need to reset. The main character goes on a road trip, alone, to do this, and it really works for her. Alone trips are wonderful and I highly recommend them. :)
The writing is beautiful, as Elizabeth Berg's always is, and the main character is just as human as the girl next door. But, maybe emotionally, I just couldn't really relate. Having not ever been married or had children, I couldn't identify with the middle-aged woman trying to discover herself. I was a bit fidgety with the stream of consciousness journaling and letter-writing, although when I could relax into it, the story was quietly compelling. Not my favorite novel by Berg, but worth the read
