Finally read this classic, worshipped piece of environmental activist fiction. Too bad the gender politics are so far beyond the pale I could barely finish the book. The self-righteousness of Abbey (and this title especially) are hard to swallow these days. One saving grace: all the gory details you'd ever want about how to shut down all kinds of earth movers. Can we get a piece of good activist fiction published that's not so cock-centric, and perhaps not based in Vietnam angst? ...more
