This book was incredibly depressing. Written in verse, this story of a girl living during the Dust Bowl won the 1998 Newbery medal. There is so much loss and devastation in this book it was kind of hard to read. The fact that it was written in verse made it a little less dense I suppose. I guess it was well done because I really did feel a sense of empathy for the main character and all the losses she experienced. I think it may be a good way for kids to learn about the Dust Bowl years, but hard
