Engaging story based on the experiences of Korean picture brides who came to Hawaii to wed men they had never met. Interesting exploration of the histories of both Korea and Hawaii, including race relations, the roles of women, etc.
Brennert is a master of putting a fictional account in a historic setting and teaching the reader about the setting and time while delivering a spell binding story.

I really enjoyed this book! I love the historical aspect of it and the story of the main character, Regret, is excellent. She is such a strong woman living in such an oppressive society, she decides to move to Hawaii. She goes there as a picture bride. I very much enjoyed reading her story.
