Great job of storytelling by Tan about the complicated relationship between a mother and her daughter, and all the "ghosts" of the past. Lots gets dredged up in a very interesting manner--bouncing between China and San Francisco (with some Hong Kong in there as well)--in which you learn various things from both the mother's and the daughter's viewpoints. ...more
