Kids literature done right. Riordan is a master, with page-turning plots, lines that make my son laugh out loud as he reads, and enormous amounts of educational material (in this case, that of Ancient Egypt) seamlessly woven in. Loved this book.

Personally I love this book due to being bias. Eygptian mythology and archeology are two of my favorite things so it's easier to follow. For a newbie, this would be a crash course read along the fiction.
It's a great book, but as a librarian, I am kinda reluctant to place this in my school library without any request. Why? The indepths are to distracting regardless interesting and educating. It's no The Last Olympian but I'm willing to see where Riordan takes the series. Contains a few weird race issues that may just be me overthinking, or may be unconscious white guy privilege; bugged me either way.

This book was AMAZING!!!. Non-stop action. It was a continuous chase until the end. There were many, many different characters. The Egyptian mythology is a little complicated and tricky to understand. I look forward to the rest of the series and can't wait until the next book. Ugh...have to wait until 2011.
