The 12-year-old and I read this as a primer to the HBO series. I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's pretty violent and creepy. "..and he plucked out Iofur’s heart, red and steaming, and ate it there in front of Iofur’s subjects." Yikes! Between this and the horrible experiments being performed on children with the silver guillotine, the whole story is weird and intense. But it's unique so I'll give it that. ...more
