As I was reading this book I wasn't sure if I liked it or not, but the writing swayed me. Desai had a style that has been unlike anything I've read for a while and I enjoyed it. She did win the Booker Prize and do usually love Booker Prize winners, so I don't know why I questioned it. The story was interesting and kept me going and made me think. Beautiful prose but man, is it bleak. It's hard to get invested in a book like this because I just don't care. I don't want to pick it up and read because it isn't enjoyable. I had high hopes for it with all the awards it received, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. ...more
