In the case of The Idiot, the sum of its parts are greater than the whole. The snippets of daily college life and observances of human interaction are sharply written and very funny, but the narrative meanders and, in the end, doesn't amount to much. I gave this audiobook 7 hours of my life and it gave me NOTHING back. Probably the worst book I've read all year. I did not enjoy the writing style and the characters were BLAH and I found it all so boring. Sorry! I tried, really I did. This was like reading 3 different books.

Book 1: HILARIOUS, 5 stars, I've never laughed so hard.
Book 2: Angsty, dragged a bit. 2 stars.
Book 3: Less funny than Book 1, but absurdly absurd. 3-4 stars? ...more
