What Members Thought
Wow- just wow part of me respected this book - it is hard, honest realistic. So why one star? I read to escape, to experience life through the eyes of another and I can say I experienced the life of others - and I hated all of them. There was not a character in this story that I liked. Other who have rated this book as one stars lost it at the squid scene. Oh they were lucky. I made it to the end. I really crammed this book in for book club and sometimes I wish I had taken a little more time to read it (although I know I can come back). The writing is beautiful and the story is complex and makes us think a lot about the role of America in the war. One thing that it points out well is how we have left the Vietnamese out of our telling of the Vietnam War.
