I had been wanting to read this book for a while so when it was my turn for book club I chose it! I believe this was Wecker's first novel and she started off with a bang. It's set in 1899 NYC and involves the immigrant communities, fairy tale/fantasy, and looks back in time. There are multiple plots that eventually tie together. I kept thinking I'd figured it out but was glad at the end that I was off track a bit. I enjoyed the relationships between the characters and how they negotiated life in

Unusual, mystical and enchanting, this book introduced us to a new world where spirits and mystical creatures exist and even have their own fear, problem and feeling. With the setting of NYC is early 1900, i can actually imagine that this story really happened...
