I sat in the middle of a busy lobby with my nose in this book, completely oblivious to my surroundings. I read it in 24 hours, crying a good bit of the way. This book is excellent.

Tayari Jones created three sympathetic characters in a love triangle. Celestial and Roy, Jr. have been married for just over a year when he is arrested for a crime they both know he didn't do. When he's sent to prison, Celestial must come to terms with who she is and who they are as a couple.

I’m sure somewhere in the bowels of Instagram headquarters, there’s a room where this book is enshrined on a golden altar with fresh flowers and full-time staffers who are solely responsible for printing and displaying all the praise and comments about this book from #Bookstagram.

At best, it’s a testament to the beauty of subjective opinions. At worst, it’s the most over-rated book I’ve ever read. Ever.

I enjoyed the drama. I really loved the way Jones addressed the theme of marriage and race and incarceration. I typically don’t go for the relationship books, but I still enjoyed reading it.

Story of a newlywed African American couple whose lives are torn apart when he is incarcerated for a crime he did not commit. Will their marriage survive? Will she stay by his side or run into the arms of a childhood friend who has always loved her?
