The quintessential Florida historical novel. This is a holy book in the part of Florida I live in. It was the first Florida historical novel I read when I moved here and it opened my eyes to history I didn't know we had. Yep. I give this one away, too.

It's a family saga, and those of us who know Florida know the end. The land went from pristine and pure to drained, overdeveloped, and dying in the span of one man's lifetime. Put this together with Hiassen's "Tourist Season" in a list of books

Beyond excellent! The most entertaining book I've read in years. A must read for Floridians.

It was interesting. The best parts were the landscape and the setting of old Florida.

The plot was interesting.

The character development left something to be desired. I wasn't as attached to the characters as I should've been.
