This was fascinating. I loved the story, and the characters, and the writing, and the message. I loved how the writing mirrored Juliette's state of mind and her image of herself. As her life became more stable and purposeful, so did she and the writing. It was a unique insight into the MC's mind which we dont usually gain through traditional narration. And I would not be surprised if Juliette was actually OCD or bipolar. I dont know much about those two conditions, but Juliette does seem to str ...more
Started slowly, but I could love Adam Kent. There were some plot issues, but I forgive them. I liked Juliette and was jealous that Adam loved her.

Juliette can kill with her touch. She doesn't want to and she didn't mean to hurt anyone. She is locked up for a murder she didn't mean to commit. Then the government decides to use her power. This is a dystopia. People are starving. The Reestablishment has taken over but they are corrupt and cruel. And Juliette doesn't want to be their weapon. I liked this book so much that when I was halfway done, I ordered the next book in the series.

I would recommend this book for people interested in a first-person romantic dystopian that reads like breathtaking metaphorical poetry. So many negative reviews. At least they're honest, which is positive in and of itself. Mine will be, hopefully, as positively honest as I can write it since I've continued to enjoy what I've read, and be gently critical for what I did not. Since finishing I found the prose is very creative and pretty and story, especially near the second half, to be exciting an

I didn't really know what to expect coming into this series. I really liked this first installment. The writing, punctuation and style were a bit hard to fall into at first. But it really does lend to the voice of the character and once I was a few chapters in it was easy to handle.
I'm really conflicted about the whole series, since I've finished all three books and the two novellas.
I have to say that I have serious respect for Tahereh Mafi. She is a genius. I'm conflicted for reason that I can ...more

I loved, loved, loved this book. It's a little bit Hunger Games meets X-Men, so not the most original, but it totally worked for me. The writing is beautiful in a first person narrative, pulling the reader in emotionally from the beginning. I really loved the inner workings of Juliette's mind as her narrative effectively illustrated her dilema between insane and sane. A big fan of the love story, and I loved the age old idea that Juliette and Adam were meant for each other. I'm excited to discov
