This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I loved reading the letters. It makes me feel like I was reading into the intimate lives of others. I don't know why, but I seem to really favor this writing style the most. I watched the movie before I read the book because, historically speaking for me, doing the opposite makes me furious. I tend to watch the movie first so when I see that the book was better, I don't get cranky about it. This case is to be just as true. I loved this book. Even the despicable charachters were endearing in their own way. How refreshing to read something where almost every character is likeable and you could picture having tea with them. Each one of them. This book paints the ugliness of war alongside the resilience of communities, the strength of friendship, and the soft sea air. This book is a treasure.
