Given eminent literary critic Harold Bloom names Roth along with Delillo, McCarthy and Pynchon as the four greatest American authors of his time, I expected to hate this book. In a world where Lindberg becomes president instead of FDR getting his third term, Hitler's fascism and anti-semitism slinks into our country. I usually do not like "alternate history" stories, but this one is beautifully written and well worth the read.

I loved this book! It's one of the most creative, unique, out-of-the box stories I've read in a while. Or maybe I should say "Listened to" in a while, because this was the audiobook version, which was narrated by Ron Silver (rest his soul), who is probably my favorite reader of all times, and whose voice is so infectious (in a good way) that I found him narrating the various thoughts in my head, even when they had nothing to do with the book, Philip Roth, or Lindberg's America.
