This book is truly outstanding!!! Seriously one of the best books I have read this year, it is profoundly moving, poignant in its delivery and I literally picked it up and it did not leave my hands until it was finished, every page is filled with emotion and for the most part I was welling up with tears in my eyes or sitting here with a silly grin on my face. I love Amy Lane, as a writer she is incredibly talented and this book is AMAZING!!! I can’t even begin to tell you just how much I loved i

★★★★★ I found it - my 5 star Christmas story! ★★★★★
It was perfect. A wonderful emotional story that shows what love is really about.
Rusty comes from a well-to-do family. He has good looks and is in with the 'right' crowd. He may not be the brightest kid but he seems to have it all. That is until he meets Oliver and things take on a different perspective. "It's kind of sad when I think about it now. At the time, I thought I hung out with a bunch of okay kids. I figured we were spoiled and shelter ...more

I'll be over here, crying, for awhile.
If I never write a proper review, you all should know this story is amazing, and heartbreaking, and still lovely and affirming, too.

This was... lovely. And it's almost all thanks to Rusty.
Rusty is the type of character that probably almost all readers fall a little bit in love with. In a protective, 'awww'-inducing, motherly kind of way. Rusty's young, but more than that, Rusty's slow. Not stupid, no, but it takes a while to get things cleared in his head and to get around the edges of abstraction that people lay out without second thought.
But he's genuine. He's honest. And he's courageous in that - when he comes to a conc ...more

Amy Lane has gifted us with a special story about two special young men. I love it when is a story about someone with a huge heart and in this book, that someone is Rusty. He a little slow when it comes to school work but he makes up for any deficiencies with a loyal, giving heart. As with most of Amy Lane's book that are fantastic, I cried in several places. She always gets my emotions worked up and that's one reason I always buy her books. They are usually full of enough depth to ring emotio

This was an absolutely adorable book! Rusty is a sweetheart of a young man, even if he is just a tiny bit dim, who falls in love with Oliver at his own deliberate pace. Unfortunately, he has parents who have no interest -- at all -- in trying to understand anything about him, or where he might fit into the world. So when they find out that he is in love with Oliver, their reaction is grim.

The thing about Lane's stories, I find, is I can't really sit and think about them. If I do, then it starts crumbling, at least a bit. I find that Lane tends to write MCs that read really young. The Algernon thing, for example, that I mentioned in my original review I wrote as I was reading, became more and more of a problem for me during post-read ruminations. The LI is also surprisingly flat; the focus is on the MC and the LI, I find, serves as more of a plot device to further the end o ...more
