I've attempted this book before and yet have never understood why it's achieved its timeless popularity. I'm thinking that it has to do with the greek tragedy aspects of the story mixed with the romance elements flavored by the feel of a gothic horror film.

This book is for the hopeless romantic people. I did a book review on this when I was in 1st year high school because my teacher approved it. It didn't gave me any after affect after reading this. I saw the old black and white movie years ago and thought it was sad and romantic. Reading the book, it was much more sad and demented.
The story was interesting, and the characters well developed. I am used to reading about "flawed" characters, but these were just desturbed. What I really miss in this kind of story and like the Doestovesky books I've read is the element of redemption.
