I love this book!!! I was pleasantly surprised by it. I was compelled to read it until 1 in the morning, in the bathroom, with my husband sleeping soundly in bed. I started this book in the middle of a work week, so it took me a few sleep deprived days to finish.
The concept is not that original, but it holds its own. It is a futuristic gladiator with a twist. The characters are well crafted and the story is so compelling. I couldn't put it down and when I did it consumed my every thought. The f ...more

“You don’t forget the face of the person who was your last hope.” In Panem, the ruins of what was once North America, twelve districts ruled over by the harsh Capitol are forced to send two children, a boy and a girl, between the ages of twelve and eighteen to fight to the death on national television. When sixteen-year-old Katniss takes the place of her twelve-year-old sister Prim, she has to leave behind the only town she’s ever known and represent the poorest district of Panem, District 12.

Ya know, I like it. I am looking forward to the next two. I have two gripes, more two comments on it. First, it needs to be edited, not just for grammar but for flow. It has some spots that stop you because of the grammar. And second, it needs an editor for content. This book is so close to be extremely good. Where it lacks, besides grammar, is in some of the imagery development. I think the author has left too much for our imagination. I can't tell if this is a world of "Tank Girl" or a world o

Quite possibly one of the best books I will ever read. Her pacing is fantastic, her message is superb and the characters are wonderful.
Loved this book. Suzanne Collins creates a very real world in Panem where the government is corrupt and some of the people are left starving. I thought Katniss was a great character. She was strong and independent yet vulnerable enough to love her. I did not realize that this book was part of a series so I was truly frustrated when I came to the end and ended up with a unexpected cliff hanger. I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys reading about wilderness and survival. However, be su

If there were 10 stars I would give it to this book. The story is vibrant and unique. The characters are complex. Katniss is an adult in a teenagers body. This author had me in her grasp from the first words. I cannot wait for the sequel. You definetly have to ask yourself what would I do in similar circumstance? Would I have the courage to do what Katniss must do to survive? This is a must read!
A book full of action, romance, survival where it's unsure what's real and what's not. I LOVED it
