[close] I absolutly loved this book I'm on Catching Fire right now and it is amazing. I'm also excited for the movies, which I heard there were going to be 4 movies so I guess their going to do 2 parts in Mockingjay. Also I think the actors that they chose were perfect, at first I was like eh then after I saw what they were going to look like in the movie i wass like. THEY ARE PERFECT! Also I'm a defanite Team Peeta.

“You don’t forget the face of the person who was your last hope.” In Panem, the ruins of what was once North America, twelve districts ruled over by the harsh Capitol are forced to send two children, a boy and a girl, between the ages of twelve and eighteen to fight to the death on national television. When sixteen-year-old Katniss takes the place of her twelve-year-old sister Prim, she has to leave behind the only town she’s ever known and represent the poorest district of Panem, District 12. “You don’t forget the face of the person who was your last hope.” In Panem, the ruins of what was once North America, twelve districts ruled over by the harsh Capitol are forced to send two children, a boy and a girl, between the ages of twelve and eighteen to fight to the death on national television. When sixteen-year-old Katniss takes the place of her twelve-year-old sister Prim, she has to leave behind the only town she’s ever known and represent the poorest district of Panem, District 12. People all over Panem don’t expect much of the girl from the Seam, the poorest part of District 12, but Katniss will set this year’s Hunger Games on fire.
The Hunger Games, written by Suzanne Collins, is a powerful story of rebellion, love, and choices. Collins uses beautiful descriptive language and can really make you feel for Katniss by focusing more on Katniss’ thoughts, feelings, and past than focusing on dialogue. One of my favorite examples of this is Katniss describing how she felt after her father’s death: “The numbness of his loss had passed, and the pain would hit me out of nowhere, doubling me over, racking my body with sobs. Where are you? I would cry out in my mind. Where have you gone?” Collins makes you cry, feel happy, and stay on the edge of your seat when the characters are in peril.
Collins also uses lots of symbolism. One example of symbolism was when Katniss, Prim, and their mother were starving after her father’s death. While Katniss is looking for food in trash cans, she collapses of hunger and exhaustion. She sees the first dandelion of the spring and remembers her father teaching her how to hunt and how to find edible plants. The dandelion symbolizes hope. Another example is Katniss’ pin, which has a mockingjay on it. In The Hunger Games, mockingjays, called “muttations” in Panem, started out as a bird designed to spy on enemies. Eventually, they rebelled against the Capitol and started a new breed.
I have many favorite parts in the book, but my favorite part is the language. One of my favorite lines is, “When the televise the replay of the reapings [the choosing of competitors in the Hunger Games:] tonight, everyone will make note of my tears…I will give no one that satisfaction.” Another is, “All I can think is how unjust the whole thing is, the Hunger Games. Why am I hopping around like some trained dog trying to please people I hate?” These lines really struck me.
The Hunger Games will make a huge impact on you and will make you think about what is right. I recommend this to anyone looking for a moving book that will compel you to read until you find out if Katniss will survive. ...more

I absolutely could not put the book down. What an exciting story with remarkable characters. Whenever I recommend books to friends and family, this book is totally the first one.

I absolutely loved this book! The whole world was well thought up and it's so scary that the world could end up that way. GALE IS WAY BETTER THAN PEETA! WAIT! NEVER MIND!!!! I read Mockingjay and PEETA IS WAY BETTER THAN GALE!!!!!!! :P It is a really really violent book, but that's the only downside. One thing I can't stand is when a really good idea turns into a crappy book because it isn't written well. This book had an amazing idea and it was written well. Ah!
