I like how the author set up the interplay between humans, vampires and werewolves in this book. It has the comedy of manners thing going for it with an alternative Victorian England and a brook-no-nonsense female protagonist.
What I didn't expect was the Harlequin-light romance aspect to it. It didn't distract me, per se, just surprised me. I do appreciate that she didn't allow stuff to get too randy - it definitely would've pulled away from the story.
