It's taken me weeks to read this book.
This story, retold in the form of a 'history' document is, or had the ability to be a masterwork of grimdarkness:
World-weary soldiers constantly on the move - check!
Dodgy villains who'll cut your throat for some coins - mostly check!
Sorcerers who're pretty dangerous - check!
All set in a cod-medieval world being fought over (endlessly) by some (pretty faceless) leaders.
And there's the whole problem with this book in a few short descriptors. The war is endless ...more

Adquiri-o depois de o ver figurar numa lista de bons livros com péssimas capas, menosprezados por quem os julga pelas ditas.
É interessante. Começa algo confuso, com bastantes conceitos para assimilar num universo peculiar e único. Narra as acções da Black Company, uma companhia de mercenários a soldo de quem pagar para ser o seu "patrão" por determinado período. Usually, if I take more than a couple of weeks to read a book a don't finish it. The pacing is annoyingly uneven. Why did I keep reading? I found the characters interesting and hope that the rest of the books in the series are better.
