What Members Thought
About the best thing I can say about this book is that the writer can write good prose, though anyone who chooses to use a word like 'aeruginous' is automatically disqualified from ever being a favorite of mine. The book felt like a bet someone made, as if someone drank a lot and boasted that he could do better than that Rowling woman...and then came nowhere close to succeeding. There are moments in the book where he slows down and makes me almost think it is getting better, but they don't last.

Overall, I didn't like this novel. I don't have much to add that other negative reviews haven't mentioned. I didn't sympathize or empathized with Quentin. I didn't care about his problems. (He reminded me too much of Holden Caulfield.) His friends and other characters in the novel were equally uninteresting. The story was also equally uninteresting.
I'm glad that I didn't buy it. I borrowed it from the library. I will not read any more novels in this series. ...more
