4.5 Stars!
After much persuasion and maybe even a threat or two by friends and fellow bloggers, I finally decided it was time for me to pick this series up and see what all the fuss was about.

Can I just say that I am an idiot for waiting so long to do so? Other than the advantage that I don't have the agonizing wait for the next book to be out since they are now all out, (the only positive to having waited so long to start this series) I can't believe what I have been missing this whole time! Thi 4.5 Stars!
After much persuasion and maybe even a threat or two by friends and fellow bloggers, I finally decided it was time for me to pick this series up and see what all the fuss was about.

Oh my gosh, I love Adam. Where has he been all my life?

Waiting or no, I really am kicking myself for stalling so very long before starting this series. I don't even know where to begin to describe the barren almost desolate feel to the world that Mafi has created. It screams dystopian in every way possible but there is so much more to this story than a harsh dying world. This is a love story ever bit as much as it is a dytopian or a fantasy. It truly is everything good.

This has all the elements I love in a story, it is captivating, it stood out not only with it's beautiful writing and at times lyrical prose but in the voice and feel that Mafi choose to give Juliette. She really is quite the unique character in every way imaginable. Her voice is innocent and child like one minute and insightful and deep the next. She has so much goodness inside of her with her ability to see the good in people and to care about a world that has been nothing but harsh and cruel to her.

Juliette is one character that you won't soon be forgetting.

And Adam is definitely one you won't forget. In fact I dare you to not fall madly in love with him after only the first book, heck the first few chapters he is in. He is sweet and caring and just fabulous.

Oh my gosh, I can't believe how much I loved this. I will definitely be making time for all the other books. This is one series I don't want to wait to read. I want to read them all, right. Now.

I have been sitting for a maybe 3/4 days trying to do this review and I have come to the conclusion that it probably isn't going to happen. I adore this book so much that I actually can't form the words to give this the type of review it deserves. Now this doesn't happen to me that often. Usually when I am in love with a book I can gush forever. But this completely blew me away that I have no word!! However, here goes.

Shatter Me is about Juliette a 17 year old girl who has a power that if she touches someone they could die. She has been locked up for 264 days. With no human contact, until one day she gets cellmate; Adam who has a hidden secret. And Juliette's life is turned upside down as The Reestablishment want to her weapon.

The plot, the setting, the characters, the cover!. OMG. I feel in love straight away with the story that Tahereh Mafi has created. The wrting style does take a bit getting used to as its quite different but brilliant! Juliette has such an unique voice that really makes her stand out against your typical YA heroine. She is fragile yet very fierce when she needs to be. I adore her. Trying to describe her is hard without giving away spoilers but she reminds of Rogue for Xmen with the curse power she has. When we are introduced to Adam, her cellmate. Once again I fell in love. Especially the more the story continues and the more we learn about him and his past.

Shatter Me really did lived up to my expectations and more. The plot is totally different and quite dark at times which I find fantastic. I love my books dark.

YA Dystopian is my thing just now, and even though I haven't read many of them, Shatter Me is probably in my top 5 because it is so unique and fast paced and thrilling that I just couldn't put this book down. Tahereh Mafi has created a flawless debut that is so beautifully written it will completely mesmerize the readers from start to finish. And no doubt blow you away and leave you speechless like me!

I'd actually give it 2.5 stars if I could.

Ambivalent. That's how I felt throughout most of this book. It had it's good points and boy did it have it's bad points. The action sequences and world building were pretty decent. However, structurally it was difficult to read. I don't think the style was really that unique. Rather, I thought it was a bit gimmicky. Plus, I don't really understand why Mafi couldn't write out numbers. Is it that difficult of a thing to do? I also had problems with the ch I'd actually give it 2.5 stars if I could.

Juliette was very weak. She didn't do really anything to fight back throughout most of the book. And I was sort of bored beyond belief with everyone telling her how pretty she was. Seriously. Every single guy, save for one whose hormones haven't kicked in yet, mentions how hot she is. As for Adam, he just comes off as too perfect. That he was in love with Juliette since the third grade, in which they never really shared a real conversation with each other, but he enlisted in the evil despot army just to find and rescue her. It doesn't make really that much sense to me since he has a little brother he should've been watching over, but whatever. I just wish there was a little edge to him. The one character that was well defined was the villain, believe it or not.

Best Feature: X-Men. I like all these little nods to X-Men in this book. But of course it's not X-Men. Though Juliette does remind me of Rogue. A very whiney version of Rogue

Worst Feature: Bad Grammar: Sigh. I feel conflicted a part of me wants to award this feature to Juliette, but in the end I decided to give it to the bad grammar that was deemed Mafi's unique style. Look, I took lots of creative writing classes in college and I'm well aware that there are several ways to write a book. But I have issues with varying stylistic approaches when they are just blatantly obvious and serve no purpose other than giving me a migrane. For example, I don't understand why Mafi didn't write out numbers. There was no reason for it. Neither for the repeated crossing out of lines. While it might seem like it's a unique feature that makes the writing catchy to read, it gets redundant. Also, I should point out the frequent use of metaphors was obnoxious. It seemed like every single sentence there was some sort of metaphor. Wait, you might be thinking, metaphors are a good thing. And they are, they really are. But to have them every other sentence, reminds me of the fourth grade where you had to write a story that included x amounts of adjectives or what not.

Fascinating book that grabbed me already on the first page, about special girl Juliette, handsome boy Adam and a destroyed world. Definitly a must-read!

Juliette has been isolated from mankind for 264 excruciating days.

She has been known for her lethal touch that could kill a living person, for that, she has been called a freak and was abandoned by her parents. Never known of love and intimacy, it is a wonder why she hasn't fall into the depths of desperation and despair. It is a wonder why she hasn't lose her sanity and haven't stopped hoping.
