4.5 stars. Expected this one to be a natural for my Beloved Bookshelf, but it didn't quite make it. Maybe my expectations were too high or I wasn't in quite the right mood for it? I did greatly enjoy it, but wasn't gobstopped as I'd hoped to be.

This is probably my sixth or seventh re-reading of Dune over the years, and it still holds up. The best of science fiction, with a lore that encompasses political maneuvering, the danger of religious fervor, ecology, and meditation. Looking forward to the movie!
I was shocked at how much better than the movie it is and I really liked the movie. The inner monologue of the characters is so good and such an important part of the narrative.
A desert world where a religious tribe controls the production of a commodity which enables transportation and therefore commerce rises up to challenge its control by colonial powers.. hmmm...
