While overall well written, I just could not get past the "Zones" concept. It seemed cool, but for a hard-science fiction book, the science seems really shaky that a "line" exists that moves around in the galaxy that can effect fundamental physics in electronics, etc.
Note: I thought the FTL spaceflight and communications were fine. But why in one part of the galaxy the bit rate for video communication was one speed and then I cross a threshold and suddenly it drops in rate without any other inte ...more
