The book begins with an amazing short story, but then it kind of trails off into a slow pattern before taking off again about half way through.

I was struck by something in my past, I was instantly teleported back to a book I read as a child called Z for Zachariah. The book has similar elements that touch on human psychology and the nature of the inner struggle of the inevitable motivations of our id as a collective.
