I was surprised how quickly I got caught up in this fairy tale for adults, and how riveted I was until the very end. Of course, illustrations were a huge part of that. In fact, the book is really a full-length novel that just happens to have beautiful and compelling illustrations on every page. And in the narration, Gaiman struck just the right balance between fantasy and reality, between the silly and the serious, and between uplifting and frightening fantasy.

I think this is my favorite, so far, but I'm not sure if I want to bump the rating to 5 or leave it at 4 (it's definitely a 4.5, but I need to sit with it a while before deciding on the final whole star rating).

A good, quick read. It's well-written and engaging. Exactly what I was looking for from a book described as a fairy tale for adults.
