So here I am, incredibly late to the party having finally read The Book Thief.
I have to admit, although I did enjoy the novel it didn't quite live up to the high expectations I had after hearing so many recommendations and gushing reviews.

I don't know what to say about this book that hasn't already been said. The tone is pragmatic and otherworldy at the same time. The characters are well-drawn and the storytelling is superb. Do not let the idea that this is a young adult book make you think twice about reading it - it's a great tale!
