his book did a great job of pulling me in at the beginning and weaving two powerful threads together. The plot and the characters are believable, though far from mundane. I liked the writing style - straightforward, but not cheesy or contrived like a typical crime fiction novel. There was definitely an abundance of mystery here, though, and I was kept guessing. I did not find the answer to the Katy murder mystery obvious, but I wasn't actively trying to figure it out, either.

In The Woods focuses on two different mysteries, one current and one from the 1980s. One mystery never comes close to being resolved and is just left as a tangle of loose ends. I don't read books to find them realistic - if so this one had several glaring issues. I prefer that my mysteries be solved for the reader, even if the culprit isn't brought to justice.
