This story is told in two distinct parts by two different narrators. It begins in 1943 France with our first narrator being held by the Gestapo and instructed to write out a list of radio codes in exchange for the cessation of Gestapo torture. I struggled with the first part of the book because I don't know very much about plane jargon and codes and the jumping back and forth in time was a bit confusing. I'm not unique in not really having any idea how to review this book.
It's about love, and bravery, and sacrifice, and the depths and heights of the human condition. It's about overcoming evil and hardship. It's about kindness.
But mostly, it's about the friendship between two women.

This is one of those, "It's me, not the book" reviews. I've been reading reviews of this for so long that I was so excited when I found this on audio at the library. I figured I would give it a whirl while I was driving back and forth between my new and old house while moving. I was not impressed. I even listened to the last 3 CD over again so that maybe I could change my mind about enjoying this, but alas it never happened. Maybe if I had read it instead of listened to it I may have enjoyed it

Probably a 3.5 good book, interesting. It didn't blow me away, but I still enjoyed it. Interesting look at a time period I actually don't know that much about.
