Her Royal Spyness by Rhys Bowen is the first book in the Royal Spyness series. This book introduces us to Lady Georgiana, 34th in line to the throne, who moves to London and starts up an upmarket cleaning business anonymously in order to support herself. Unfortunately, a dead body on her bathtub and her brother Binky accused of the murder forces her into her own investigations. I enjoyed this book immensely. It started slow as we were introduced to the characters and their connections to the Roy ...more

Too many good ideas come from the sidekick to actually believe Her Royal Spyness solved the first case. She might be a relative to King George V and Queen Mary, but it's her best friend Belinda Warburton-Stokes who has all the initiative, the right ideas. Georgie's grandfather contributes a fair bit. Hell, even Queen Mary has an idea or two even though it goes nowhere. Our heroine spends much time waffling on the will she won't she question regarding a lack-luster love interest, alternating with ...more

It’s 1932 and Lady Victoria Georgiana Charlotte Eugenie (Georgie to her friends), a minor Royal, cousin of King George V of England, and thirty-fourth in line to the throne, has just moved to London from her ancestral castle in Scotland (now belonging to her brother, the Duke of Glen Garry and Rannoch, and his wife), to make her way in the world.

She needs to find a job, but everyone keeps reminding her that members of her set don't work......they socialize. When she is requested by the Queen to

I liked this right from the start because of the author's writing style, but I was a bit "put out" (haha) by how long it took to discover a body and set the mystery in motion. I guess from the handful of cozy mysteries I have read, I'm used to this part happening sooner in the book. But I did like Georgie a lot, and I plan to continue the series, eventually.

*One side note: I was not a fan of Darcy, for some reason. I can't put my finger on why exactly, but more poor heart was extremely sad about

Lady Georgiana is 34th in line for the English throne and therefore expected to behave as royalty but without the means to afford it. Her brother is Duke of Glen Garry and Rannoch, owner of a Scottish castle which has been financially devastated by his gambling father. He and his wife are economizing to the point where Georgie has had her allowance eliminated and is expected to serve the dukedom until such time as she marries and they have a Prince all picked out.

To avoid this Georgie heads to
