An amazing book. So touching and real. I don't even know how to describe it.
It's a really powerful story that everyone MUST read. It's not only about World War II, is about life - and how easily it could come to an end. Summary: A story about a little German girl living through WWII in Germany. Nice perspectives and very engaging fairy tale style story (very dark though).


Things I liked:

Death as a narrator (great choice).

Foreshadowing was used very well with a few red herrings as well.

Well constructed moments that definitely pulled at the heart strings.

Good pace and varied story telling techniques.

An amazing book. Zusak is an incredibly talented writer. It was refreshing and interesting to read a book set in Nazi Germany that's not told from a Jewish perspective. I loved it, and will be reading this book again. My biggest question is why this book is considered young adult? While I hope that my daughter reads this book one day, I'm not sure that this is material for a nine to twelve year old. ...more
