Second time through for this one. I appreciated it more this time around. Words create us, heal us, make us fall in love. Words can also kill us. Words are some of the most important things in the world and care should be exercised in their use. Death narrates this story of war, and death, and love, and life.
THIS IS WHAT YOU CAN CALL REAL BOOK. After finishing the book my pillow became wet with tears ,this is the first time in my life i sob that much after reading a book it never happen to me ever. I adore this book i felt like all the characters are my neighbors , Rudy was like my friend i loved him so much i admired his feeling his tricks his lemon hair .Leisel was like me i felt that i'll do everything she've done she is a great girl . Hansi ohhh Hansi i wish that i can know such a person.

Incredible! It is wonderful to find a unique book about a topic which is so well-covered. Narrated by Death, this book looks at World War II as it affects the life of one young German girl and her foster family and neighbors.
It was interesting to be made to feel sympathy for the Germans in a book about World War II. The author's choice of narrator, I think, made that possible--it was no longer about the nasty Germans and the suffering Jews, but about individual people and their choices. ...more

This book is classified as a young adult book and therefore I should probably have read it a few years ago, however I would argue that this book is open to all and is a fantastic book, beautifully written. Secondly when looking through the reviews someone said this book was not a quick read, I read 300 pages of it in an afternoon so for me it was a very quick read.
