Gotta love a story that's more than it presents itself to be.

I admired the writing craft on display more than the story. Jungle Horses is well written but feels dramatically inert (in my humble opinion). The prose is crisp and has some real moments of genuine quality. But Arthur's story lacks any sense of threat - either in London or later on the island - and scenes seem to unfurl without every offering much in the way of tension. I never felt the urge to put it down, but I also never felt hugely compelled to tear through it in any haste to see how it end

I've had Jungle Horses bouncing around my ereader for a while now but finally got round to starting it yesterday. Today, I'm done. A wild, swift ride. Notes of everything from Graham Greene through to Michel Houellebecq.
