I read this mainly to prepare myself to read Corregidora, which I swear I had heard was basically a response to The Sound and The Fury. (At least according to a Backlisted episode I may be misremembering.) Anyway, it was a pleasure to listen to Faulkner's language- and while I probably would not have slogged through Benji's or Quentin's sections reading the traditional way, I could appreciate the rhythm and repetitions- and drift in and out of the story as I cooked dinner. If this was the first Faulkner book I read, it would be the last. Its like too many classic books - extraordinary but difficult.
