Many times, when I read a book with lots of post-modern "tricks", the writing method becomes the main focus and the story becomes secondary. Kiss of the Spider Woman is successful because this did not happen, despite Manuel Puig's experimental approach. The novel is a combination of dialogue similar to a play, official government documents, psychological footnotes on homosexuality, and drug-induced dreams. There is not central narrative voice which ties these different parts together, yet the bo ...more

There's no narrative voice in Puig's novel, only dialogue. Despite this the novel is wonderfully multilayered, and Puig has subtly weaved the stories of the main characters among the recountings of the films Molina has seen. Loved the choice of films, Cat People (1942) and I Walked with a Zombie (1943) among others. Publicado em 1976, este livro é um pungente e sensível mergulho no relacionamento de um preso político, Valentin, com seu companheiro de cela homossexual, Molina, acusado de corromper menores.

I loved this novel. This unique & unconventional love story between two men in an Argentinian prison. The friendship/love between Molina and Valentin is gripping, wonderful and witty. In the beginning they were bitching like husband and wife. After they extreme events with eachother that has changed. Kiss of the Spiderwoman is an unforgettable tale.

The movie is great too. It may have alittle change from the book, but still very enjoyable. I give both book and film 2 thumbs up. =)~

Kan me niet herinneren of ik dit in het Engels of Nederlands heb gelezen. De Nederlandse cover komt me wat bekender voor.
