Perhaps no other work makes me think more about jury duty than when I see the film adaptation of Twelve Angry Men playing. Reginald Rose’s Twelve Angry Men is a short, powerful, tense drama that delves into the legal and justice system, but I think it also encompasses and digs into much more than that. Reginald Rose's Twelve Angry Men is, by itself, a five star play. I have yet to hear or see a bad version of it performed. And this version by LA Theatre Works doesn't disappoint.
The casting is strong, the performances are convincing, and the soundscape created by the stage effects and the audience watching the show is excellent. powerful stuff.
I am currently in rehearsal to play Juror #10 in a staged-reading version of the "co-ed" 12 Angry Jurors. In high school, I had played Juror #8 in a school production of 12 Angry Women. I am greatly enjoying studying the play from a new vantage point and actually prefer playing the more nuanced colors offered in playing Juror #10. I am still struck by the stilted language written for Juror #8, and, without care and a very gifted actor and/or the rewrites made for the screen, Juror #8 risks sound
