I'm stopping. I can't spend time with these people anymore.
Bathsheba is excruciating. She is spoiled, selfish and unkind, much like the Prince who became a Beast, and beautiful as she is reported to be she is ugly because her personality is ugly. I hear tell that she is becoming something of a feminist icon these days. I sure hope not. I can't imagine any intelligent, strong willed woman who would want to behave like a toddler throwing a fit at bedtime. It's not strength. It's selfishness.

Now I MUST read the book after this great BBC dramatization.
I love Thomas Hardy. He's so full of poetry and tragedy and fulfills my need to feel like I'm living in some English countryside. I found Bathsheba thoroughly irritating until I read this paragraph at the beginning of chapter 29:

I don't get along with Thomas Hardy's novel. Their tragedy, his women and the two pages long descriptions about cows are just not my thing (although I loved the paragraphs about sheep in this book). Even so I really enjoyed this one. It was a lot of fun and I tried not to be to judgy.
