I was looking for something free in Audible to tide me over while I waited for my next credit when I saw this. Free Tolstoy? Yes.

This novella recounts the end of the life of Ivan Ilych who is a judge in 19th-century Russia. Ivan is married with two children and living a comfortable life with the typical day-to-day family and job issues. I don't recall if Tolstoy writes what city this takes place in.

One day Ivan falls down while hanging curtains and hurts his side. Thinking it’s s just a bruise

Death is an eternal issue and many authors have examined it from different angles. It was good experience to read this book.

It's Tolstoy. He was a genius. However, Russian novelists just don't resonate with me, though I can appreciate their genius. Russian poetry, great. Russian plays, definitely. Russian nonfiction, yes. Novels and short stories - just not for me, sadly.
