This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men is about many things: hope, friendship, dreams, loyalty, despair. While it is simplistic in its story and narrative, there is a deeper layer that goes underneath the surface. I think this is a part that resonates with many readers who enjoy this novel. They can relate and identify with needing to try to make it in the world, to explore their goals and aspirations, knowing full well that obstacles of all types come along.

I think this story is well written with memorable characters and memorable scenes. The ending, in my opinion, happened a little too abruptly and George didn't show enough emotion. Those were my two main problems. Other than that, I can see why it's a classic.

I like the way Steinbeck compares animals and humans, especially with Lennie. He's compared to a dog at some points and even a bear. This helps the reader to sympathize with him a little and see how many of the characters see him - as a sec ...more
