I'm probably the last person on earth to read this. Somehow I wasn't assigned this in any of my high school English classes and it escaped me until my 52nd year.

I'm quite surprised I haven't read this book before! For a good way through the book, I thought perhaps I had, but the ending really surprised me, so now I think it's my first time through. Of all the themes in this short novel, I was most taken by the friendship and loyalty between George and Lennie, as well as their dream of a better life for themselves.

I understand completely while this continues to be a favorite among the classics. Steinbeck is a master novelist and his characters and descriptions stand the test of time. The ending though!!!
