I am truly obsessed with Hardy. This is my third Hardy book (all read this month, thanks to the joyful experience I had reading Far From the Madding Crowd). This is my least favorite of the three but was still a stunning experience. Hardy writes clever, unique and intriguing passages that make me listen closer. I've never read a Thomas Hardy so I decided to get this audio book at the library read by none other than Alan Rickman (which already made it awesome).

I am now loving Thomas Hardy and am adding his other novels to my list. People complain about his tendency to be overly descriptive, but that is what I love most about classical writers (Austen, Dickens, etc). They paint a picture.
