The central character reminded me of Marie Hilley (Alabama housewife and fatal poisoner) in that she presumably created inexplicable lies about her life, that I suppose, made her small prescribed life feel more exciting. And Notaro's creation also reminded me a bit of Velma Barfield, the first woman executed after the death penalty's reinstatement, I read her autobiography years ago and what stuck with me was her simpering, sort-of "poor me, I didn't do anything wrong, and if I did I can't remem ...more
