Oh am I glad I did not stop in the first 50-70 pages when all I wanted to do was not read this book? I AM SO GLAD! The start is a big shaky, in part because you find it hard to care for the characters at first and I personally had to struggle with my brain who was like "we already read One Hundred Years of Solitude, why are we reading it again?" and once I got over that preconceived notion in my brain I could finally let myself be immersed into the story and care for the characters and ...more

The first 3/4 of the book was much more enjoyable than the remainder of the book. I enjoyed Rosa's and Clara's story much more than i did of Alba's.

One thing that irritated me was the lack of use of paragraphs. At times it would go a couple pages with no paragraph breaks.

Beautifully written genealogy of the Trueba women Clara, Alba and Blanca set against the background of a government overthrow. Magical realism at its best.
