Loved this! I think I enjoyed it more than Legends & Lattes!! Either way, I flew through it (I had to put it down to read a book club book). Also my friend Michelle who owns an independent bookstore (been in business for 26 years!) says that the things the characters did to revitalize Thistleburr Booksellers is what she had to do for hers. In other words, Travis did his homework! According to Michelle, so many books that feature booksellers and bookshops get it wrong.
Such great fun to read, a cosy fantasy full of adventure & friendship, and set in a bookshop - lovely! I have read Legends & Lattes but I don't think it necessary to enjoy this book.
While recuperating from injury, Viv makes friends in the little town of Murk, helps to bring Fern's bookshop back to full operational glory, experiences romance, & captures the evil Varine inside an enchanted book. All in a day's work for the intrepid Orc. ...more

I was looking to fulfill a particular reading prompt, and Viv the Orc fit the category so neatly that I had to use her for the "strong" type. As I stated earlier, I did not think I would enjoy this series of stories as much as I did, because I did not think I was the "cozy" type, and this story, like the earlier Legends & Lattes, is very much a cozy fantasy, found family story, with endearing characters, even when they are orcs or homunculi. Although this story was written after Viv retired from

This felt pretty slow, and I didn't like it anywhere near as much as Legends & Lattes. Knowing that Viv was just going to leave made me not really care about the love interest. Besides that, they didn't even seem to have any chemistry.
The parts I did like were in the bookshop. I would rather have just had a story with different characters that was set in the bookshop. I quite liked Fern and Satchel. Or if this had been written and published before Legends & Lattes, I might have liked it better ...more

Another super cute, cozy fantasy read. This one is still in a small town where Fern is left behind by her crew since she is injured. She makes friends, gets up to shenanigans, and makes us fall in love with the town. I loved the local little book shop and it's adorable little pets. I loved the bakery and the pastry goodness. A very cute, feel good story!

So... I really enjoyed Legends & Lattes and found it very comforting and nice. So obviously I was excited for a prequel and seeing what Viv was up to before opening the cafe because obviously she did something with a bookshop! But this book ended up being not great, not terrible, just somewhere flat in the middle and here's why:
- the book love did not really translate, it was more like a capitalist bookshop trying to sell books which I get it, that's what bookstores are but I wanted to al ...more

I'm not sure what it is about this series that is so damned cozy and comforting, but here we are again. Just like finding a cozy chair in your favorite bookshop, this book is lovely and nostalgic and sweet. It's interesting, because it's not like nothing happens. There is a plot and intrigue and drama. It's just written in such a way that it feels like a balm to the soul. A love letter to books, if you will. Viv is one of my favorite characters ever and getting a look into her past (since I read
