The author started the book with a bang, IMHO. I always assumed that the slavery started because white tradesmen lured/kidnapped black people. But the reality seems to be that the people in Africa sold their own people to white tradesmen for few coins mostly the outcome of the tribal fights. British were able to colonize so many countries only because of these internal feuds.

I wasn't sure how well the author could pull off a story that spans a couple centuries in a book this length, but she does it beautifully. I really enjoyed this read - one of my favorites I have read this year.

Every now and then you run into a book that touches the very depths of your soul. Homegoing did this for me. It seemed as though every chapter included a bit with a line or two that I wanted to mention in my review of the book... But it was just too enthralling to put down.
