Steeped in African lore and historical detail, it slowly introduces the reader to each and every member of the family as they experience Ghanian wars, slavery, Civil War, and the roaring 20's. If you were Black in America or you should read this book. If you are white in America you should read this book. If you are in America you should read this book!

This is one of the most gripping yet heartbreaking infuriating, disappointing, eye-opening books I've ever read. As a black woman in America this explains to me my feeling of always feeling not quite connected to this country and validates that feeling I have...that empty space where cultural identity should live.

Every now and then you run into a book that touches the very depths of your soul. Homegoing did this for me. It seemed as though every chapter included a bit with a line or two that I wanted to mention in my review of the book... But it was just too enthralling to put down.

Homegoing follows a family line that splits in two. One side is sold in slavery to America. The other stays in Africa.
