Rien ne sert de fuir son destin.
Pour une grande passionnée de la littérature de Tolkien, ce récit sonne un peu comme un exhumation de la plus courte version déjà lue dans "Les Contes et légendes Inachevés". A part ce détail, l'histoire reste passionnante, sombre à souhait et chaque personnage court vers un destin fatal, comme marqués par le malheur. I really wasn't thrilled by this novel. I could tell that the story had so much potential to be great, but the writing was lifeless. Maybe this is all to do with the fact that J.R.R. Tolkien didn't actually compose a full narrative of the tragedy, but even the efforts of Christopher are less affective than they could have been. Yes, this probably would have made more of an effect had I been recently submerged in the world of Middle Earth, but it's been (to my shame) many years since I read the L

Epic. Such a poignant story from The Elder Days. I had read The Silmarillion version, and greatly enjoyed this stand-alone, more detailed version. The intro and appendices were also helpful and informative.
A sad, sad story! This is no Lord of the Rings, or even The Hobbit for that matter but Tolkien's style keeps you hooked and anyone who's craving for more of Tolkien will welcome this book with open arms.
