I really liked this.
It had the feel of a classic noir mystery (though in some ways the resolution to that mystery was a bit of a letdown in terms of tension), given the era, the setting and the hard-boiled detective lead (with a heart of gold).

Not one of his best books. The mystery was really weak and stylistically, well... I wasn't all that crazy about the detective slang and roaring 20s terms (anachronisms for me). They just didn't flow with the rest of the narrative -- but perhaps this is an issue with me being an ESL reader and not with the narrative.
